Buy Social Canada is a national organization. This Personal Information Protection Policy has been developed in compliance with Federal Legislation, the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and the Personal Information Protection Act for the Province of British Columbia.

Buy Social Canada is committed to providing our members, clients, customers, and visitors (collectively, our “users”) with exceptional service. We will inform our users of why and how we collect, use and disclose their personal information, obtain their consent where required and only handle their personal data in a manner that a reasonable person would consider appropriate in the circumstances.

Privacy Officer: means the individual designated by the Board of Directors for ensuring that Buy Social Canada complies with this policy. At this time the Board has designated the organization’s CEO whose name and contact information can be found at the bottom of this document. The Privacy Officer manages implementation of this policy in:

  • Information management practices, policies, and procedures
  • Staff training
  • Customer relations
  • Policies and procedures
  • Inquiry and complaint processes (including requests for access to and correction of personal information and general issues concerning personal information.)


    • Collecting Personal Information

    Unless the purposes for collecting personal information are obvious and the user voluntarily provides their personal information for those purposes, we will communicate the purposes for which personal information is being collected, either orally, or in writing, before or at the time of collection.

    Information Users provide Buy Social Canada

    To provide users with the services of Buy Social Canada, we may collect and store information that users disclose to us with user consent. For example, we collect information from users when they sign up for our email list or fill out a form on our website to apply for certification or a training program, and when users contact us by email, over the telephone or in-person, or in response to a survey or promotion.     • How long Buy Social Canada will retain personal information

    We will only retain user personal information for as long as needed for the purposes, or a legal or business purpose.

    We will make reasonable efforts to ensure that user personal information is accurate and complete where it may be used to make a decision about the user, or disclosed to another organization. Users may request correction to their personal information in order to ensure its accuracy and completeness.     If the personal information is demonstrated to be inaccurate or incomplete we will correct the information as required and make reasonable efforts to send the corrected information to any organization to which we disclosed the personal information in the previous year. If the correction is not made, we will note the user’s correction request in the file.

    Securing Personal Information

    We are committed to ensuring the security of user information in order to protect it from unauthorized access, collection, use, disclosure, copying, modification or disclosure or similar risks.

    The following security measures will be followed to ensure that user personal information is appropriately protected: the use of user IDs and passwords and restricting employee access to personal information as appropriate. Buy Social Canada will use appropriate security measures when destroying user’s personal information such as shredding documents and deleting electronically stored information. Buy Social Canada will review and update our security policies and controls as technology changes to ensure ongoing personal information security.

    Providing Users Access to Personal Information

    Users have a right to access their personal information. A request to access personal information must be made in writing and provide sufficient detail to identify the personal information being sought. Upon request, we will also tell users how we use their personal information and to whom it has been disclosed if applicable. We will make the requested information available within 30 business days,, or provide written notice of an extension where additional time is required to fulfil the request. If a request is refused in full or in part, we will notify the user in writing, providing the reasons for refusal and the recourse available to the user.

    Changes to the Privacy Policy

    Buy Social Canada may revise or amend this policy at any time at our sole discretion. If we make any substantive changes in the way we collect or use personally identifying information provided by users, we will post a prominent announcement on our web site home page and post the changes on this page. We will never change our policies and practices to make them less protective of user information collected prior to the effective date of any changes without the consent of affected users. We encourage users to visit this page periodically to review our current policy.

    Questions and Complaints

    The CEO is responsible for ensuring Buy Social Canada’s compliance with this policy.
    Users should direct any complaints, concerns or questions regarding Buy Social Canada’s compliance in writing to the CEO. If the CEO is unable to resolve the concerns, the user may also write to the Information and Privacy Commissioner of British Columbia.
