Welcome to the Social Procurement Professional Certificate course. Use this Learning Portal to find key links, homework and session descriptions. New materials will be added throughout the course and you will find instructions on how to submit homework. The session recordings and slides will be added each week.

Session 1 – May 29

In Session 1, we will go through the first two modules of the course:

Module 1: Fundamentals of Social Procurement

Learning objective:
Participants will be able to describe and summarize what social procurement is, what’s happening across the country and why it’s important.

Module 2: Building your Social Value Organization through your Supply Chain

Learning objective:
Participants will begin to catalyze a change in culture in their organization.

Homework

Research and bring your organization’s objectives to the next session

Go through your organization’s mission, vision statements, and other key strategy documents, to identify objectives which could be applied to a social procurement policy. We will discuss these during Session 2.

Social Procurement Diagram

Draw a visual representation or diagram for social procurement that would be used to present the ‘what’ and the ‘why’ of social procurement to your team. We recommend drawing on a piece of paper and taking a photo to submit or you can use PowerPoint, Canva or other digital tools. Whatever works best for you!

You will share these diagrams with each other in Session 2.

Module 3: Developing a Social Procurement Policy

Learning objectives:
Participants will develop a social procurement policy statement and a road map to connect objectives with purchasing.

Module 4: Construction and Social Procurement

Learning objectives:
Participants will understand social procurement in construction and Community Benefit Agreements

Homework

A social procurement policy statement for your organization

Based on the discussion in Module 3 about developing a social procurement policy, draft a social procurement policy statement for your organization.

Road Map Worksheet

Fill out the rest of your Road Map Worksheet.

Consider your past decision-making processes. Evaluate how you can shift your decisions to align with your organizational objectives identified in Session 1.

Session 3 – June 12

In Session 3 we will go through Modules 5 and 6.

Module 5: Implementing a Social Procurement Policy

Learning objectives include:
Participants will be able to apply social value criteria to goods and services RFx and be able to determine appropriate social value weighting for specific procurements.

Participants will be able to apply the appropriate methodologies to add social value to different types of procurement.

Session 4 – June 19

In Session 4 we will go through Module 6.

Module 6: Operationalizing Social Procurement

Learning objectives:
Participants will be able to apply the appropriate methodologies adding social value to different types of procurement.

Participants will be able to create the supportive ecosystem needed for social procurement success within their organization.

Once all of the homework has been submitted and the course survey is completed, then your Social Procurement Professional Certificate will be mailed out. The deadline for submitting all of your homework is March 25th.
